A casualty list for reportin\u2019\u2014Army life\u2019s not so much fun.<\/p>\n

At seven, a meetin\u2019 with Wellington, to work out an offensive plan<\/p>\n

Or a siege that could win my promotion\u2014not bad for a bastard, homeless man<\/p>\n

After that it\u2019s paradin\u2019 o\u2019 privates, then polish me gun an\u2019 me sword<\/p>\n

I’m not be of wealth or education, but a better soldier than any young Lord<\/p>\n

An ambush comes next in the noon hour, with troops that I\u2019ve just taught to fight<\/p>\n

Couldn\u2019t shoot for their lives or a farthing\u2026but I think they\u2019ve about got it right.<\/p>\n

By Two, its all gunsmoke an\u2019 screamin\u2019: by three, we lead \u2018em out, me an\u2019 Pat<\/p>\n
